AARCS ADOPTION PROCESS
Part of our responsibility as members of the AARCS adoption team is to match families with our rescued dogs and puppies in the most effective way possible. Families are looking for a new member to fit in and we are looking for the best possible conditions for each canine friend. So…we have developed a process which is working very well so far. Because we do things electronically, decisions can be made fairly quickly. We are thorough, and invite every person wanting to adopt to ask as many questions as needed to feel satisfied with AARCS
-
Sue at 403-932-6746 for pre-screening. You will be asked a few questions in a friendly manner and can ask us as many questions as you like!
-
All being well, we will send, via e-mail or regular mail if need be, an adoption application form. Please complete all the questions and return same to us.
-
The adoption committee will then approve the application and notify the family as quickly as possible (usually within two days). If there are any concerns, one of the adoption committee members will telephone the applicant to discuss these.
-
The third step is putting the prospective adoptive family in touch with the foster family to arrange a “meet and greet” session. Usually we ask the prospective family to plan on spending at least one hour getting to know the puppy or dog. If there is a great connection with family and canine, we ask that the family think about the adoption over night and collect the puppy/dog the next day. We ask that the adoptive family is prepared for the puppy/dog, with food, bed, toys, and bowls before he/she comes home. In the event of a long distance adoption, we ask that the potential adopters go for a quick coffee to discuss the decision then return.
-
Adoption fees of $250.00 are payable before the puppy/dog goes home!
-
New adoptive families are required to provide AARCS with a copy of the dog’s spay/neuter certificate when the animal has reached the appropriate age. We do provide follow-up and invite new families to send updated photos and anecdotes of the progress of their new pet.
