Brody's Story

This sweet boy, aged 16 weeks, was found shivering and filthy outside a residence in the community. He is malnourished and dehydrated. At the home across the road, the gentleman asked us to come with him and get the brown puppy. He was very relieved to know we had just taken him into care. Dr. Marv Mattson of the Sylvan Lake Vet Clinic examined Brody and advised us he was very thin, dehydrated, and needed lots of food, water and tlc.
Update 15 April 08: Brody's demodex has returned and we now have him on a new treatment plan. His condition is due to lack of nutrition as a young pup and will likely grow out of the demodex as he gets older and his immune system gets strong. He is being treated and he will be available for adoption once he received the all-clear from the vet. In his new foster home in Carstairs he gets to go on 3 long walks a day sometimes off leash. He is good with the other dog in the home and is completely house-trained. Brody is a happy puppy, who other than a few missing patches of hair, acts like any other pup his age.
Update 26May08: Brody has had successful knee surgery to repair the joint in his back knee- ligaments were loosened, the tibial crest was broken and a deeper groove notched in the bone with a pin added for stability. The vet sees every reason to expect a full recovery. Thankfully, this boy is pretty laid back for a nine-month-old because he has to be kenneled for six weeks - a big change for him because he has been having three nice off-leash walks a day prior to surgery. Always stoic, Brody has not complained about his surgery once. The staff at the Vet clinic loved him because he just has such a sweet disposition.
Update 17 July 08:Brody has been recovering from his leg surgery. He sure is thrilled to be allowed out for short walks again. He has become quite the celebrity in his neighbourhood. He is well known by many and they all keep checking up on him to see how he is doing. Everyone comments on what a handsome boy he has grown up to be and what a nice temperament he has. His leg is healed but Brody walks with a very obvious limp and still favours his leg. He is going to need a special home to help him out. He is very sweet and loving, and his patience during recovery has not gone un-noticed. He sure has grown since we first picked him up in December when he was a dirty matted pup. His coat now gleams and he smiles all the time. Life is pretty good these days. The only thing missing is his special family to call his own and a place to call home, forever.

Brody's vet expenses have surpassed the $2000 mark and AARCS would be very grateful for any financial support.
