Cedric's
story
On
July 11,2006 Cedric's "Grampa" left for a senior's lodge in
Tofield, thinking that the new owners of his home would take care of
his cats.
"Granny"
and "Cedric" were fed all summer by volunteers then Granny
was humanely trapped and brought home by the coordinator to live as
an indoor foster kitty.
We had all but given up hope that Cedric would be found at all.....then...last
Thursday, Nov. 29th/06, the coordinator received a call from the tenants
at Keith's old place, that "the cat" was in their garage.
She had heard meowing coming behind the garage wall, next to the house,
and was able to coax the cat into the garage, through an opening, using
tuna fish. The caller was so excited, and frantic at the same time that
she had lost the phone number to call us! She rushed to the mailbox
where a raggedy notice about Cedric still flapped in the breeze and
retrieved the number!
The coordinator was also very excited and pleased, and rushed over to
get "the cat". Aha!! It was Cedric, a much slimmer version
of himself for sure. He was taken to the coordinator's home and re-introduced
to Granny, and met the other cats as well. Poor Cedric! He was in shock,
to be indoors, fed. and stroked after 4 months of fending for himself.
Cedric is slowly adjusting to his new life, though he continues to hiss
at his new friends. His hissing is less intense, and he seems to have
stopped swiping at them too! His Grampa Keith was relieved and delighted
to know his friend is safe at last. The moral of this story, is don't
give up! Thanks to Linda of the Meow Foundation in Calgary for
reminding me of that where cats are concerned!
Cedric will be ready for a new indoor home in approximately one month.
He is eating well and often, and calming down considerably. Thank you
to the caller, the neighbors on Parkland Drive who
helped to feed and water him, and the Meow Foundation.
UPDATE
26 December 2006 Cedric is settling nicely and gaining
some weight back. He is content with being an indoor cat and is socializing
much better with his kitty "friends". He is purring again
on a regular basis. Cedric will do well in a family with either no cats,
or one other cat. He doesn't seem interested in dogs at all, although
at one point in life he shared his Grampa's bed with a young dog without
fussing! He may have been harrassed by dogs while fending for himself,
so his ability to tolerate dogs may have been compromised.
Cedric continues to be shy with strangers, but he is making progress!
UPDATE August 2007 Cedric has been adopted.
UPDATE December 2007 Update December 2007: Cedric and Gordon have been returned to AARCS due to their owner having to move. We really would love to place these two friendly neutered male cats. They love people, aren't too sure about big dogs!
Update: 31 Jan 08 (Gorden)Gordie and Cedric are two male cats (2 yrs and 5yrs old) AARCS rescued. They have been in foster care and we assumed the foster family was keeping them as we had not heard from them in a long time. Unfortunately, things have changed and the foster family can no longer keep them and need them moved ASAP. They are buddies and we would really like them to go together. Their pictures on the website are REALLY old, and I'm waiting on new pictures. They are both neutered and have been around dogs.
Update: 26mar 08: Gordon and Cedric are two wonderful cats who deserve a forever home, they are very close to each other and would like a home together. They are both very friendly with other cats and dogs. Gordon likes to be on your shoulder to watch the world go by,Cedric is a big boy and will curl up in your lap and purr loudly. Both like to be brushed and come when called by name......Gordon and Cedric are being fostered in Cochrane, bother are fixed and up-to-date on their vaccinations.
If you are interested in adopting Gordon and Cedric (must go together), please contact Sue at 403-932-6746 or Melanie at 403-887-2925.
