Mika and Tika's Story

An urgent call came from the First Nations Community that there were five puppies starving, all female, about 6 weeks old, in need of rescue. These pups were born to a semi-"claimed" dog who had wandered off to have her pups, perhaps in search of food. She wandered to a neighboring property, where she was not fed much. Her original family found her and the pups recently, and called us when they realized help was needed.

Today, November 5th, our coordinator met the caller in Rocky Mountain House with two of the pups. Food was given to her so she can catch the other pups and bring them in very soon. Soon Tika (tee-ka) and Mika (my-ka) were on their way snuggled in blankets, munching puppy food, and wagging their small tails once in awhile. Tika is quite shy but warming quickly to the idea of comfort!

Our newest foster family arrived in Sylvan to meet the coordinator and pups who were quickly snuggled into a huge blanket by their foster dad, had their photos taken, then were bundled into another warm vehicle for the ride to their new and wonderful residence. Tika and Mika will be seen at Calgary North Vet Hospital by "Dr George" for their first examination this afternoon.

We are very grateful to all who participated in this rescue, in the fog and dampness, to give these little ones a second chance.

Update 12 Nov 06: Today a rescue trip came back with Tika and Mikas' siblings Winnie and Nonie. See their rescue story and photos "here"  along with a reunion image of all four siblings.
