Noah's
Story
The morning of March 24, 2007 a call came from a distraught gentleman
from one of the communities we serve. He reported that one of the family
dogs had been shot, and had nasty lacertions on his neck. As he had
no vehicle to transport the dog, he asked for our help.
There are wonderful dog angels in this rescue community! Within 2 hours
of our conversation, the dog, called "No-Name" was safely
in our first volunteer's vehicle for transport ot Rocky where another
volunteer met them, and quickly transferred the dog to her vehicle for
a ride to the Innisfail Veterinary Clinic where Dr. "Matthew"
was waiting for him. (Dr. Mattson of the Sylvan Lake Vet Clinic is out
of town!)
By 4:45 our furry friend was stabilized, receiving fluids, and treatment
for many wounds including rope burns to his neck, lacerations on his
neck, a gunshot wound to his hip, and a variety of other cuts. We won't
know until tomorrow the full extent of treatment needed. For tonight
he is safe and warm and cared for.
He is a german shepherd cross, about 1.5 - 2 years old, very gentle
by nature. So, if you have a special name in mind, please let us know,
and briefly tell us why that name is special. Perhaps it will be the
name of your special hero!
We will update this story as information becames available!
Update
26March 2007:
No-name is still at the Innisfail Veterinary Clinic
whith Dr. Matthew. The dog stood up and was eager to
be petted and loved. He is on i.v. fluids, and pain meds to keep him
comfortable.
Update 27 March: UPDATE ON
No-name, or "Noah"
as he has been dubbed, had a 40 minute visit with the
coordinator today. He is still on i.v. fluids but is also drinking water
which is a good sign. He was given 3 bowls of food before 4 p.m. and
was going to be fed again before evening! "Noah" is pretty
thin.
He was given his very own AARCS fleece blanket, red with paw prints
along with some toys today. All dogs need their own "things".
"Noah's " vet, Dr. Yerkza, showed the x-ray of his hip, and
miraculously enough, there are no broken bones. The whereabouts of the
bullet remains a mystery - no sign of it in the x-ray. However, "Noah"
remains sore but is willing to stand and walk which is a big improvement
over Saturday.
He still has to overcome a couple of hurdles but will be able to come
home soon. We are now scrambling to find him a foster placement where
he can continue to heal.

6May07 Noah
moves to a new foster home.
Update may 2007: Adopted
"Noah" is a smallish medium sized dog, the vet thinks about
3 years old. He seems o.k. with cats, at least the clinic cat! "Noah"
is used to children and is a friendly soul. If you can foster "Noah",
or are interested in adopting him, please call Melanie at 403-887-2925
or Natalie or Stu at 403-227-2762.
Noah built up a rather large vet bill
in his recovery and we are struggling to cover the costs. If you can
help with donations, please contact Melanie at 403-887-2925 or Natalie&Stu
at 403-227-2762. Any donation large or small would be greatly appreciated.
