Oreo

Oreo's Story

We were notified that Oreo, along with his mate Zada, needed rescuing, about 2 months ago. It had been very cold, and these two homeless dogs were not doing well.
One of our adventurous young volunteers drove nearly 3 hours to where the dogs had been seen, then spent another 2 hours locating them. She brought them to the Sylvan Lake Vet Clinic where Dr. Mattson and his staff gently cared for them. Oreo, was terrified, and extremely thin, and matted. Under the gentle care of his foster family, he has slowly adjusted a new life full of love. He is at last able to trust at least one man which tells us he had a rough go early in life.
Update July 19, 2006

For the past two weeks, there has been much correspondence and many telephone calls concerning an adoptive home for Oreo in B.C. The rescue coordinator's long time friend knew of a family who desperately wanted a dog just like Oreo, and they were unable to find such a dog in their area.

Oreo went to the Sylvan Lake Vet Clinic, to be neutered, and returned to his foster home to recover. Meanwhile, an extra large crate was located, and flight arrangements were finalized with WestJet who are known for their expert animal handling.

On Thursday, July 20th, Oreo goes on his big and excellent adventure, flying from Calgary to Abbotsford where he will be met by his new mom and dad, Barry and Judy. They have been preparing for his arrival for the past two weeks.

AARCS
is very grateful for the generosity of spirit of Oreo's new family. We are equally grateful for the patience and time given Oreo by his foster family, especially Riana, aged 9 years. She was able to coax him with kindness and show him how to receive love and overcome his former life. Oreo has taken approximately 5 months to rehabilitate and now he has a second chance. Thanks Riana, Stu and Natalie, and blessings to Sandi, Barry and Judy.
