Update Nov 3, 2009
Ranger is a big sweet puppy - yes still a puppy at just over a year old - loves to play, loves his chew toys and loves - loves attention. He is very calm in the house, likes to hang out wherever you might be. He has been well trained, knows and obeys almost all commands- sit, down, wait, stay (needs a little work) and "leave it" in an instant. I say almost all --as he will usually come when called but we are currently reinforcing his recall at the off leash park - being a big and carefree boy - he does like to do things on his own sometimes but is quickly learning that coming back to you does not always mean it's time to leave.Ranger really enjoys his leash walks and is a real pleasure to walk - but he loves the off leash parks - he has a wonderful time playing with the other dogs with no problems and meeting all the new people.
He sleeps on the floor in the bedroom and doesn't try to get up on the bed, or the couch. Ranger loves to try to play with the cats, - they are so much fun!! But a reminder to him to "Leave It' and he stops instantly. - he's a big boy and could hurt one by accident.
Ranger would like a home where he is not left alone too much - he loves his people and a play buddy would be a real bonus for him- he seems to really like having a doggy companion to play with. Ranger has a very sweet disposition but would do best with someone who will enforce and reinforce his training using positive training methods and gently remind him who is in charge. Ranger of course will need someone committed to giving him regular daily exercise and playtime as well as visits to the off leash runs - this boy loves to run!!
PS -Ranger has been DNA tested and you will be surprised what breeds he has in him!!
Update Jan 10, 2010
Ranger has been waiting very patiently for his forever home. He is a tall, lean laidback sweetheart. Yes- he IS a big boy - but --Hey! All the more to love! He is a very well behaved and gentle boy --, rarely forgets his manners (-has been known to check out what's on the table) and responds well to commands ( even if he really doesn't want to! - he can pout better than any dog I have seen). He is great at the offleash park - loves to play with the dogs and meet their people- his recall is amazing and of course a long, long nap afterwards. He is a pleasure to leash walk - stays close beside you and rarely pulls.
Ranger loves to be loved, but is not demanding or pushy about it. He loves to be part of the family, -just hanging out or going for a walk. He has also decided that cats are not near as much 'fun' as he thought and for the most part ignores them.
Once Ranger has found his forever family - they will need to give him the time and patience to truly establish a bond and trust by providing strong but gentle leadership, positive reinforcement of commands, and of course -regular exercise!
