Story

It was a cold, dark day in February when Ramsay was brought into our home. It was a relatively routine night for when we get foster puppies... take them outside to sniff around, maybe pee... put some food and water down, see how he's doing... if he's dirty, put him in the bath... But what we didn't know, is how much we were going to fall for this puppy.

When we first got him he was distant and didnt want us to play with him or touch him and basically just hid under a table. It would turn out that Ramsay was really sick. He had eaten garbage before he was rescued and his body wasn't digesting it. After a very long couple days in the vet, Ramsay returned home with a completely new lease on life. He was a brand new puppy. His change was so dramatic, and he was suddenly so affectionate that it brought a couple tears to my eye.

Right now, Ramsay is as healthy and happy as he's never been before. He very rarely barks, LOOOOOOOOOOOOVVVVVVVVVVVVEEEESSSSSSS to cuddle, well let you sleep through the night, will portion his food himself, will take pills with ease, is extremely well mannered at the vets, never bites, only chews on his toys and did I mention that he loves to cuddle? He is absolutely beautiful and just the best temperament and personality.

He does have the occasional accident in the house, but if this is the only thing that we need to work with him on, I consider myself lucky. He is also very shy. We had company over and all he did was hang out in his kennel. Which is fine, because at least hes not begging. But we are going to work on making him more social.

I believe that Ramsay is at the perfect age to easily integrate him into any household, whether it be with several dogs, several kids or him as your solo companion.

If we had a bigger house, this puppy would make a foster failure out of me, and I wouldn't be happier. So if you want to see a grown woman cry, please adopt Ramsay.

The vets think that he might have been born in the wild and never really had a home, and for a puppy whose never had a home, he is doing remarkable. He still has accidents in the house, but will go to the door when he knows he has to go outside.

Update Feb 22, 2010

Ramsay is slowly becoming more and more socialized. We've been trying to have as many dinner parties as we can to get him to interact a little more with different people. This weekend was great for him. We had a 3 year old girl playing with him, he absolutely loved every second of it!!
He is starting to take less time to go up to different people and let them touch him. He will still hide under the coffee table until he realizes that these guests are harmless. He is in no way shape or form aggressive towards anything.

I am proud to say that he is potty-trained!! YAY!! He knows to go to the door, and sometimes he likes going outside to play in the sunshine. He's created a little obstacle course for himself outside. He runs on the ice, then he'll jump over the gutter, run to the fence, run along the fence into the snow, behind the bushes and under the chair and do it all over again. It's the cutest thing EVER!

We haven't taken him for any walks yet, because apparently Calgary is really bad for Parvo as of late, and because he's only had his first shot (his second is booked for March 11) they recommend that we don't take him where other dogs have been. Because Rottweilers are at a higher risk for developing Parvo. But about a week after his second shot we
should be ok to take him for some walks.

He's also the master of "puppy-wake-ups". This is when your spouse puts the puppy on the bed to wake you up, usually by kisses on the face or neck; used most frequently to deter people who don't like mornings from being in a bad mood. I am a strict judge of this, and Ramsay has it in the bag. He'll crawl slowly up to you, nestle his head on your shoulder and lick you until your eyes open, and when your eyes open he gets so
excited!!! he'll crawl onto your chest and give you more kisses!!!!!!!!
It's the best thing in the world to wake up to.

I'm still convinced that Ramsay is perfect, and if you still need more convincing please come and take a look. He will show you himself.
