Story

We named her cocoa because of her coloring, but it only took a couple days to realize the name also suited her personality… she is just that sweet! Cocoa is a friendly, happy, mellow and quiet little girl. She settled in quite quickly here, a couple accidents in the house the first day, a little barking when put into her kennel at bedtime… but she soon figured out where to do her “business” and is now sleeping quietly all night in our bed!
Cocoa and the cats were unsure of each other at first, but after sniffing each other over, everyone is quite comfortable together. She is content to crash on the couch with the other fur-kids during the day, but she has a “take it or leave it” attitude with the other animals in the house. She really doesn’t mind them, but wouldn’t miss them if she were an only pet either. If there are other pets in the home, care may be needed that the other animals don’t steal her food. In our home, she seems to wait until the other dogs are finished eating before she will start – and then she needs to know that I am close by, often carrying a mouthful of food at a time to eat nearby. Since my own dogs are chow hounds, they need to wait in the bedroom while Cocoa takes her sweet time enjoying her meal…
She truly loves people; anyone who will pay her any attention is a priority! She will lie quietly beside you on the couch or in bed, and she is so still and quiet you could almost forget she is there! She does keep a close eye on her people, and will follow us from room to room until someone sits, so she can get up close beside them. Cocoa would love to be in a home where someone is home much of the time, though she doesn’t protest when left home alone.
While Cocoa likes the kids, and is happy to snuggle beside them on the couch, she is a little nervous when little feet are running, skipping and dancing around the house. Because of her tiny size, we recommend a family with older kids (maybe 8 and older) simply for her safety and peace of mind.
Cocoa seldom barks. When the other dogs are going crazy at the window as someone walks by, or when the doorbell rings, she doesn’t make a sound! Cocoa must be the easiest dog I’ve ever fostered, she requires so little from me, yet appreciates it all, and returns our care tenfold. Cocoa would be suitable for almost any home, and would be loved and appreciated by any family!
