Story

AARCS received a call from family in desperate need to place five growing puppies. Their current dog was not spayed and “accidentally” got pregnant while on holidays. The puppies were living in a dog-run in their backyard and despite their efforts they could not find homes for them. Rescue was their last resort or they would be forced to euthanize them. Unable to think about five innocent pups being killed we found room in our foster program to take them, ON THE CONDITION that the family spay their current dog.

Hi my name is Dena, and I am a very shy little girl. I have spent all of my life outside, and did not even know what a door was until I came into AARCS. With a lot of patience and understanding from two very calm and happy little boys, I have learned to trust doors, stairs, and even a food dish. I am still learning a lot about how to be a well balanced puppy from the two other dogs in the house, and they are being great with showing me how to play. I am a fairly quiet dog, except when I am in my kennel, this is when I love to show off my great singing range. I can howl up to three octaves and add in my own barks just for variety. It is very cute, and I am usually pooped out after about 30 minutes. As long as my foster family keeps up with it, I may give up my singing practice, but I like to test them to see if they will come and join me. I am becoming more and more confident every day, I do not jump up on anyone or anything, as I am still learning what you humans are all about. I hope that I can find a great home with lots of love and patience. As of right now I have not been taken for a walk, I am not sure what a leash is, and am scared of it, but my foster mom says we will be doing that this week. I am looking forward to walking with the two other dogs in the house soon.
Dena has been fantastic with the kids, she is more willing to follow them around that to follow us. Our two sons, have been able to get her to play, eat, walk upstairs, and through our back door. We have not introduced her to cats, but do believe that she would do well with them, as long as introduced slowly. She is very shy, and we are trying to get her used to a normal busy household as best we can with patience and understanding.
