Rebeka's Story

Rebeka was found in a ditch unable to move her back end prior to the start of the spay/neuter clinic put on by Alberta Spay Neuter Task Force on May 25, 2008. They recieve 20 other surrounder so we said we would take this girl. Instead of staying for the clinic two AARCS volunteers agreed to take Rebeka back to Calgary to the emergency vet as she was in a lot of pain. We original thought she was hit by a car or shot. After a day at the vets they found she had been attacked by another dog and had numerous punture wounds on her back legs. With some anti-biotics and some TLC Rebeka will be just fine. She is up and walking around and happy to have a safe and warm place to sleep.

Breed: SHepard cross
Age: 2 ??

Good with cats: Unknown

Update from foster family May 27, 2008: Well, she’s perfect!  And timid!  Once she trusts you though she is affectionate and lovely.  She slept through the night on a blanket beside my bed without a peep.  And she doesn’t like baths!! She has a torn ear from quite some time ago and she has a chipped tooth as well so besides this latest attack she has had a hard life it seems.
Update June 5th, 2008: Rebeka is fantastic, she's actually hardly hurt at all. Most of her scabs have already healed except the few really deep punctures and she's almost done her antibiotics.  She is a really lovely dog, affectionate, smart, enthusiastic.  She's settling in nicely and mostly behaves herself :)  and she's proving quite easy to train although she scares easily.

Update on Rebeka June 2008: We wanted to give Rebeka some time to recover from her injuries and therefore did not take her in to be vaccinated or spayed. It wasn't until a few weeks later that Rebeka gave her foster family a big surprise when her little tummy started to grow a lot quicker than the rest of her body. She was pregnant when we picked her up, but it too early for even the vets to notice. Much more noticeable now Rebeka has started to nest and will soon become a mommy for the last time. Rebeka will nurse her pups and will be available for adoption following her spay surgery in last August/September.
Update June 29th, 2008: Rebeka gave birth to 10 puppies.
