The Rotti Cross Pups - Four + Three

We heard from a community member that his rotti cross female had a litter of 12 pups, 10 of whom he wanted to surrender, or maybe 7, he was not sure. He was not sure how old these little ones were, but had all ready given two of them away. He said they were eating and "walking around".

Because we had a vacancy in one foster home, we asked our very dedicated volunteer if he would collect four pups. This he did, and brought them to the SYLVAN LAKE VET CLINIC, where they were met by the foster family and the coordinator. The pups were too thin and had wormy bellies and were quite frightened. They were immediately swept into the arms of the foster family members to be snuggled and reassured as they waited their turns to be examined and de-wormed. Dr. Mattson was helpful in suggesting the best diet to help their systems to "get going", and advised us the puppies were about 4 weeks old. Yikes!!

Our dedicated transport volunteer let us know that conditions were not good for the other pups. We were pondering about where we would put these others when the vet's receptionist handed us a note from one of their customers saying she would love to volunteer to foster pups. That was surely a "God moment". Immediately phone calls were made, forms completed, and arrangements made to bring the next 3 pups into care.

Once again our transport volunteer went to the community to fetch the three pups. Sadly, the owners would not let him take the remaining pup, preferring to keep it. However, the three little ones were met by foster family number one then the next day they were examined at the Sylvan Lake Vet Clinic and transferred to their new foster home.

All the pups are doing well having ridded themselves of more worms than the foster families had ever seen. They are eating pablum and Development formula puppy food in order to give them a healthy new start.

Fortunately both foster families have adult female dogs who are very maternal towards the pups. They will be able to receive puppy "lessons" from these teaching dogs, and will get that extra nurturing necessary for very young pups.

The pups will be in care for a minimun of 2 weeks before they are ready for adoption. However, if YOU are interested in making one of these sweet pups a member of your family, you are welcome to apply and visit the pups.
