Valentine's Story

Our crew stopped at a home to distribute food to the several dogs who live there.  The resident quickly came outside and pointed out a pregnant female, shepherd/husky/collie cross??  and asked us to please take her as she is about to give birth.  We quickly made room for her in the truck where she settled in to the warmth and comfort of her own kennel!  Now the rescue crew fairly sped away from the community in order to get Valentine to the Sylvan Lake Vet Clinic for examination and treatment before she began whelping.  She is extremely thin, despite her long fluffy coat trying to cover up her bones, and is in need of a bath, a good brushing to take away her mats, and lots of very high quality puppy food.
Valentine will likely give birth as soon as tomorrow, in a nice warm place where she will get masses of affection and love until it is her time to find a forever family.  Photos to follow!
Valentine was able to be rescued today (Feb 2, 2008) because of the generosity of a new foster home in Alix.  We are very grateful.
Valentine is a really affectionate lovely girl!Watch for updates and birth announcements!

Update 05 Feb 08: Valentine gave birth to 5 puppies on Sunday, Febraury 3rd.  She and her new foster mom, Holly, worked diligently from about 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.  Happily Valenine is doing very well, and the pups are healthy.  There are 3 boys and 2 girls; 4 black pups and 1 blonde.

Update 19 Feb 08:  Valentine is putting on weight like crazy! She didnt really like the bathtub but with alittle coaxing and reasuring, she did just fine. I gave her a good brushing and had to cut out some of her mats. She got her nails done too!! Valentine is a huge suck and loves to cuddle. she loves all the attention she can get, which is alot..24/7. On Feb 16th, all of the pups opened their eyes! They are all fat and doing well. We named the two girls Nixon and Nikita and the three boys are Diesel, Deegan and Danzin.
Update 20 May 08:  Valentine has been adopted -----but then was returned.
Update 22 May 08: Valentine is a sweet, laid back dog who loves to be outside. She is currently being fostered on an acreage and does not leave the yard or get trouble. She needs a forever home with big fenced yard with lots of walks or acreage style living where she can be an indoor/outdoor dog. She is great with other dogs and is gently around children. She needs someone to spend time with her and show her the ropes of being a family pet, but she is eager and willing to learn.

Update 11July08: Update July 9, 2008: Valentine is doing great!!!  We were at Lake Newell on the weekend and she would wander off to neighbouring cabins but would not go far and she would come back when called.  She seems to be a little more active, but she cut our walk at the off-leash park yesterday I'm sure because she was hot.  It was cute, Jasmin and I were heading up a hill to cross over to the other side of the park and Keira just went to the car .
