What AARCS Has to Say
Shannon & Kevin have been an amazing asset to AARCS after joining the organization as a foster family. They tackled a rambunctious puppy with mange and then fostered and adopted a small dog, Brindi. Shannon convinced Kevin to foster a large adult dog and that is when Rebeka entered the Slade Family! But Rebeka had a secret… she was pregnant, and Shannon and Kevin soon had 10 little ones. A devoted and dedicated volunteer, Shannon and her husband Kevin gave it their all to raise all 10 puppies, who eventually found loving adoptive homes.
Since this time, Shannon has joined the organizational side of AARCS and graciously taken over many administrative duties for the over-worked volunteers. A naturally bubbly and outgoing person, Shannon assisted our volunteer coordinator Kirsty to develop teams and positions to best utilize our skilled volunteers. Shannon is a great communicator and is assisting in management of foster homes, updating the website and much more.
AARCS is grateful to have enthusiastic go-getters like Shannon on our team. As a strictly volunteer organization these people are like gold. Shannon, thank you for being reliable and energetic in everything you do for us and for the dogs we rescue. Your commitment and positive energy has brought a breath of fresh air to behind the scenes rescue work.
A Few Words from the Volunteer
We have always been animal lovers and in particular, dog people. We have always had 2 or 3 dogs around but it didn't occur to me to rescue animals or volunteer with a rescue organization until I stumbled across the AARCS website. I read just about every dog story on the whole site that day and got choked up at the wonderful work this organization was doing. It appealed to me that AARCS mandate was to the First Nations Communities and that they were making an effort to help them with responsible pet ownership. I instantly connected with the vision and the people of this organization and my loyalty has been theirs ever since!!
We've done a little bit of everything with AARCS so far...fostering a few dogs including a pregnant female and then raising her 10 puppies and seeing them off to their new homes! Fostering is some of the most heart-breaking and completely satisfying work and it is totally worth the time, energy and emotional investment it requires. I also volunteered at the adopt-a-thon which was a blast and now do some administrative and foster family support work to help in keeping the AARCS wheels turning. There are so many different roles that volunteers can take on - so if your heart is to help us rescue animals - then there is definitely a part you can play!
