Winter's Story

One of our rescue crew members received a call Jan 22, 2008 to advise us that the caller's female dog was going to have pups.  He asked us to please come and get her.   AARCS is so lucky to have wonderful foster parents who are able to accommodate pregnant, and nursing moms so arrangements were quickly made to rescue her that day.  When our crew member called the surrendering family, she asked if the man could check to make sure the dog had not already given birth.  Sure enough, she had!

This morning, Jan 23rd, two rescue crew members went to pick up the mom and pups who are very tiny indeed!  This is Winter's third litter in about 2 years.  She has two little "boys", named Roscoe and Jake, and two little "girls", named Quinna and Quada. Winter is finally able to retire from breeding forever. The volunteers at AARCS encourage dog/cat owners over and over to spay/neuter their pets!

Winter has had a very rough life thus far and bears scars on her face and ears, one of which is sliced almost into two complete pieces.  She was extremely shy at first, but has come around marvellously! She finally has the comfort of knowing there will always be a big bowl of food and lots of love to go around. She is a sweet, well-tempered, lovely dog. If you think you can give an older dog a home, she will pay you back with a life-time of love and loyalty.

Update July 2008 – A BIG thank you to Anna Thompson and Grandma Violet for transporting Winter from Irvine to Calgary....she is now with Lee & Dan in Calgary where hopefully the perfect family will come along for her. She is one beautiful dog and is no longer a skinny, scared dog. Anna & Violet started out at 8:00 am and did not return home to Trochu by 8:30pm. They drove over 840 km.

Update from Foster Family July 2008: Winter is a rotti/Shepard cross and is smaller than you’d think. I must congratulate the 2 previous foster parents, Church and Genevra in Irvine. Winter is the most socialized, happy, friendly girl I have ever met. If she is awake her tail is wagging and a little grin appears on her face. These were taken last night after her arrival. Thank you Anna & Violet for taking the time to go get her for us. Now that she is back in Calgary and can meet potential "parents" she should be adopted in no time.
